I have finished two books already this year and it's only the 12th. That being said, I am in a bit of a reading slump. Do you know what it's like to want to do something, but you just can't make yourself? I have been trying to read different things to get myself back on track, a reading palate cleanser if you will. Nothing is working.

So I started 2025 strong, reading Vile Boys and Let The Right One In. They were both great starts for the year, but now I just can't seem to get myself into my next book. I like to ask others for my next genre when I am stuck. That is how I ended up reading Let The Right One In. This time I was given historical. So I downloaded a book last night to start my next book, but I am now getting this deep sense of dread when I try and read it.

Book slumps are hard. In my personal library I have all kinds of books. I don't think any genre is really safe from me. I have whole bookcases full of different types of books. Yes I do tend to lean toward dark romance. That is something I will get into on another day. That being said, I really love to read all kinds of things.

What is your favorite genre? Do you lean toward fiction or non-fiction more? Do you have something you love more? Poetry is my go to for so many things. I also love history, mostly World War II and anything that has to do with Ancient Europe. I just love to read so many things. It's how I learn and in turn I take what I learn and share it with others.

So today I was packing up books, thinking that I would be able to find something to read that would grab my interest. What I found instead was a lot of books that were turned into movies. Books that are turned into movies or TV shows is a hot subject for me. I get very passionate about them, especially when the book is one I love. I was putting books into boxes and seeing the titles as I went through them. It made me think about some things that I have seen.

So Let The Right One In was made into a movie twice. The first was done in the original language, the second was done in America. They both are decent, but the first was better about following things in the book. That has me thinking about all the other movies that have been books first. I get very upset when a movie does not do justice to a book. There are so many that have cult-like followings, like Harry Potter. They are good movies, but the books are amazing. There are so many things left out. Like the moment when they have to help the House Elves get their freedom. I loved that part of the book. It's the same with Stephen King novels.

I know you all have seen The Shining and so many love it. I am not one of them. They did not stay true to the book at all. There are parts. They remade in with a TV mini-series. That was better about following the book. And then there was the sequel, Dr. Sleep. I loved that one, and I knew it was based off the book. I feel like it was a better script, done like it should have been. I kind of wish they would go back and redo The Shining. There are times with they do ok with adaptations of his novels. Like Gerald's Game, Misery, and even the new remake of It. It was good the split it, because that is a massive book. And I know they left things out, with good reason. They could not have the Ritual of C.H.U.D. in the movie. They frown on children having sex, which happened in the book. Bev slept with all the boys. It was how they became a team. Who knew one girl screwing all the boys in her friend's group would bring them all together.

I think that there are people who think that if they see the movie, they don't need to read the books. I am here to tell you that you do need to read them, if books are your thing. You get so much more from the books. I think in my almost 45 years, there has been only one or two books that follow the movies. My favorite book and movie set is Memoirs of a Geisha. They did an amazing job with that movie, and it helped me see what I had already read in the book. I loved the story that the book told, and I feel like for once they truly were able to make a book into a proper movie. And the movie was just beautiful. The colors, the feelings, it was just one of those movies that I could watch again and again.

So here's hoping I can get past this reading slump I am in. I have two books I have to read and teach for school, but that is different. Fingers crossed!
